Your best friend wants to try something new tonight. Or you and your partner have tickets to the theater and want to relax before or after. Or maybe your boss is looking for a location for a post-work social gathering. What are your options?

You look at your watch. It’s Wine O’clock.

But now you need a spot in (or near) Downtown Nashville. Here are a few:

This is a place to impress a date. An award-winning wine list, sought-after reservations, and food that is farm-to-table.  Flyte is consistently at the top of many “best of” lists: Gayot, Zagat, and The Guardian, to name a few. Between Downtown and the Gulch, you can’t find a better spot to enjoy a hearty red or light white. And the food is all local to Middle Tennessee. Be sure to check out the lounge and patio.

Not quite Downtown. But you can’t miss this place. Plus, when you tell that special someone, “I’m taking you to Barcelona,” they might think you are heading to the airport as you near the freeway. Don’t worry. They won’t be disappointed when you end up here. This place specializes in both Spanish and South American wines. Almost 400 wines populate the wine list, and you can enjoy tapas with each glass.

Wine. Just wine. And local wine at that. Not an evening place, their Marathon Village location offers tastings in the middle of the day, seven days a week. But no need to travel to Napa Valley or the hills of France when you want that wine-tasting experience. Family owned and operated, Grinder’s Switch also offers private tastings for groups or couples.

Not your first thought when you think wine bar, but this place offers wine pairings with their artisan chocolates. They also offer traditional Absinthe during their Green Hour, if you want to cross that off your bucket list.

So there are some choices to get you started — a couple traditional, and a couple outside-the-box. Just remember to drink responsibly, and don’t drink and drive!
